Which side are you on
We stand on both. One counterparty, one price, either direction.
| Selling | If you grow, produce or export de-icing road salt, we are the buyer. Tell us the volume and the window and we bid it, prompt or forward, so the price is fixed before the crop moves. We price against the Jan to Dec harvest and ahead of it. |
|---|---|
| Buying | If you buy, process or manufacture with de-icing road salt, we are the seller. Give us the tonnage and the delivery window and we offer it, with the price locked for as long as your book needs. Arrival at destination usually runs Jan to Dec. |
Send the side, the quantity and the delivery window. We come back with a price.

Caps and floors on de-icing road salt
A fixed price binds buyer and seller. A cap or a floor is a guaranteed price on one side only. You pay a fee up front for it, and it is a right, not an obligation: you use it only if the market moves against you.
| Cap | For buyers. A guaranteed maximum price for de-icing road salt. If the market is above the cap when you buy, you pay the cap. If it is below, you buy at the market price and let the cap lapse. |
|---|---|
| Floor | For sellers. A guaranteed minimum price for de-icing road salt. If the market is below the floor when you sell, you receive the floor. If it is above, you sell at the market price and let the floor lapse. |
| Fee | Agreed and paid up front. It is the whole cost of the cap or floor, and it is not refunded if the cap or floor goes unused. |
A cap or a floor is in place only once a trader confirms it in writing. Ask the desk for a cap or a floor.
Shipment and customs
Production is when the mineral is mined and processed at origin, which follows the mine plan and the weather at the pit rather than a crop season. Arrival is when a shipment from that origin typically lands in a consuming market. The gap between them is drying, grading, bagging and the voyage.
| Harvest | Jan to Dec |
|---|---|
| Arrival at destination | Jan to Dec |
The largest producer, from lake, rock and sea salt, with output following the chlor alkali sector rather than a crop season.
Windows outside this are priced on request. Tell us when you need it and we will work back from the date.
Customs classification
Salt moves under the following Harmonized System headings. Confirm the heading with your broker before entry; classification turns on the finished specification, not the trade name.
| 2501.00 | Salt and pure sodium chloride, whether or not in aqueous solution |
|---|

Contract terms
Quantity, grade tolerance, delivery point, and delivery window are agreed in the trade confirmation and prevail over anything published here. Quality is established at loading by an independent inspection agency nominated by SIP and acceptable to the counterparty, unless another basis is agreed in writing. Documentation, certificates of origin, and any phytosanitary, food safety, or conformity certificates are supplied as available for the grade and origin. The counterparty is responsible for import permits, duties, tariffs, and regulatory clearance at destination, and for confirming that the grade is admissible there. Title and risk pass at the agreed delivery point on the agreed Incoterm. Payment terms are agreed per trade. SIP may require a deposit, a letter of credit, or documents against payment. All trades are subject to SIP standard terms and conditions. Disputes are governed by the laws of Alberta, Canada, and resolved by binding arbitration in Calgary, Alberta.
