The grade
Hand-graded block panela (bloque), Hoya del Rio Suarez basin, Santander/Boyaca, Colombia, graded against the NTC 1311 (ICONTEC) national panela standard; grade BLKHG denotes trader-sorted block panela that has not been laboratory-verified against NTC 1311 at the point of sale.
Smallholder trapiche-boiled block/cone panela from the Hoya del Rio Suarez basin, sold and sorted at point of purchase by trader-eye colour, hardness and moisture feel rather than against the NTC 1311 physical-chemical thresholds (sucrose, reducing sugar, moisture, ash, minerals, contaminant limits) that formally define the product; an independently drawn and lab-tested sample against NTC 1311 is the verification layer missing at this origin today.

Shipment window
Sugarcane for panela on this basin runs an approximately 17-month vegetative cycle rather than a single annual crop, and growers stagger planting across plots, so trapiches (mills) cut and boil in overlapping batches through most of the year instead of clearing one discrete harvest window. Arrival to a buyer is fixed against a specific mill's confirmed run date rather than a fixed seasonal calendar.
| Harvest | Jan to Dec |
|---|---|
| Arrival at destination | Jan to Dec |
Staggered, near-continuous milling driven by the cane's ~17-month vegetative cycle rather than one seasonal harvest; confirm a specific trapiche's cutting/boiling date before quoting an arrival window.
Windows outside this are priced on request. Tell us when you need it and we will work back from the date.
What we quote, and how far out
We buy and sell spot cash prompt out to three months, physical delivered prompt out to six months and forward from three months to twelve months. We price floors and caps, fixed-price deals and storage and rental against a stated side, quantity and window, and anything past the dates above the same way. There is no cap on the dates we will look at.
A quote is firm only when a trader confirms it in writing against your side, quantity and delivery window.
Contract terms
Quantity, grade tolerance, delivery point, and delivery window are agreed in the trade confirmation and prevail over anything published here. Quality is established at loading by an independent inspection agency nominated by SIP and acceptable to the counterparty, unless another basis is agreed in writing. Documentation, certificates of origin, and any phytosanitary, food safety, or conformity certificates are supplied as available for the grade and origin. The counterparty is responsible for import permits, duties, tariffs, and regulatory clearance at destination, and for confirming that the grade is admissible there. Title and risk pass at the agreed delivery point on the agreed Incoterm. Payment terms are agreed per trade. SIP may require a deposit, a letter of credit, or documents against payment. All trades are subject to SIP standard terms and conditions. Disputes are governed by the laws of Alberta, Canada, and resolved by binding arbitration in Calgary, Alberta.
Bids, offers and Buy or Sell requests on this page are non-binding engagements of price under the SIP standard trading terms. A trade exists only once SIP confirms it in writing.
